How to Evaluate a Job Offer

A job offer is more than a salary number.

The best offer is usually the one that provides the strongest combination of compensation + career growth + learning + stability + quality of work.

Use the ZetaHire 7-factor framework

Score each factor from 1–10.

FactorScore
Fixed compensation/10
Variable compensation/10
Career growth/10
Learning/10
Manager/10
Company quality/10
Work-life balance/10

You can also assign different weights depending on your priorities.

1. Compensation

Calculate fixed salary, variable salary, bonus, equity, benefits and estimated take-home. Don't compare CTC alone.

2. Career growth

Ask: "What does success look like after 12 months?" Then: "What role would I realistically move into after succeeding here?"

3. Learning

Will you learn new technology, industry knowledge, leadership, sales, product or strategy? Skills that increase your future market value are extremely important.

4. Manager

Your direct manager can significantly influence your experience. Ask:

  • How often do they provide feedback?
  • How do they measure performance?
  • How long have they been with the company?
  • What does their team look like?

5. Company

  • Business model
  • Growth
  • Financial health
  • Product
  • Customers
  • Leadership
  • Reputation

6. Work-life balance

  • Working hours
  • Commute
  • Travel
  • Weekend work
  • Remote flexibility
  • Leave policy

7. Future opportunity

"If I perform well here for two years, will this experience make me significantly more valuable in the job market?"

Final decision framework

Offer A: ₹14 LPA with excellent learning and a strong manager. Offer B: ₹17 LPA with a poor manager, limited learning and weak growth. Don't automatically choose B — a ₹3 lakh difference today could be much less important than the skills and opportunities you gain over the next several years.

Before accepting

  1. 1What will I earn?
  2. 2What will I learn?
  3. 3What can I become?
  4. 4What risks am I accepting?
  5. 5What will my next job opportunity look like after this experience?

Then make the decision.

Estimate the monthly take-home for each offer before you rate it.

Score the compensation factor accurately
