How to Calculate Salary Hike Percentage
Calculating a salary hike is simple once you separate CTC from fixed pay.
Salary hike % = ((New Salary − Old Salary) ÷ Old Salary) × 100
Example
Current salary ₹8 LPA, new salary ₹10 LPA. The increase is ₹10 lakh − ₹8 lakh = ₹2 lakh. The hike is ₹2 lakh ÷ ₹8 lakh × 100 = 25%.
How to calculate salary after a hike
If your current salary is ₹10 LPA and you receive a 20% increment: ₹10,00,000 × 1.20 = ₹12,00,000. Your new CTC would be ₹12 LPA.
How to calculate the required hike
Suppose you currently earn ₹8 LPA and want ₹12 LPA. The required increase is ₹4 lakh, so the required hike is ₹4 lakh ÷ ₹8 lakh × 100 = 50%.
CTC hike vs fixed salary hike
This is where many employees make mistakes.
| Component | Current | New offer |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed | ₹8 LPA | ₹9 LPA |
| Variable | ₹1 LPA | ₹3 LPA |
| Total CTC | ₹9 LPA | ₹12 LPA |
The CTC hike is 33.3%, but the fixed-pay increase is only 12.5%. That's why you should calculate both.
Don't confuse salary hike with take-home increase
Your CTC can increase substantially while your monthly take-home increases by much less, because of:
- Income tax
- Employee PF
- Professional tax
- Other deductions
- Variable pay
- Gratuity structure
Use the ZetaHire in-hand salary calculator to estimate your monthly take-home after the change.
